Golden Hour on the Sun Road: Evening Sunset E-Bike Tours Start May 15!

The spring "hiker-biker" season is a sacred time in Northwest Montana. It is that rare, fleeting window when the gates of Going-to-the-Sun Road are open to those on two wheels, but still closed to motorized traffic.

We are thrilled to announce that bookings are officially open for our Evening Sunset E-Bike Tours, running from May 15th until the road fully opens to vehicles for the summer season.

If you are looking for the ultimate way to experience the Crown of the Continent without the summer traffic jams, this is it.

Why the Sunset Tour is the Ultimate Glacier Experience

Most people head out early in the morning, but there is a secret to spring in the Rockies: the long Montana days. By mid-May, the sun doesn't set until nearly 9:30 PM, giving us a massive window of golden hour light that glows against the lingering snowpack of the high peaks.

1. Escape the Crowds

Even during the hiker-biker season, the road can get busy during the day. By launching in the late afternoon and evening, we head up as most people are heading down. You’ll often feel like you have one of the world’s most famous roads entirely to yourself.

2. The Golden Hour Glow

There is nothing quite like watching the sunset over Lake McDonald or seeing the light hit the Bird Woman Falls from the saddle of an e-bike. The colors are deeper, the shadows are more dramatic, and the photography opportunities are endless.

3. Effortless Exploration

Our premium e-bikes take the "work" out of the climb. You can focus on the scenery and the crisp mountain air rather than the burn in your legs. Whether you are a seasoned cyclist or haven't been on a bike in years, our tours are designed to be accessible and exhilarating.

Tour Details & Logistics

  • Season Starts: May 15th (Weather permitting)

  • Duration: Tours run until the road opens to vehicle traffic (typically late June).

  • Location: We meet in West Glacier, the gateway to the park's west entrance.

  • What’s Included: High-end e-bike rental, safety helmet, and an expert local guide who knows the history, geology, and best photo spots on the road.

Gear Up for the Elements

Spring weather in the Flathead Valley can be unpredictable. While the valley might be warm, the temperature drops quickly as we gain elevation and the sun dips low. We recommend:

  • Wind-resistant layers

  • Gloves and a warm hat (to fit under your helmet)

  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes

  • A camera or phone with plenty of storage!

Support Local, Ride Local

As a locally-owned and owner-operated outfit, we pride ourselves on providing an authentic Montana experience. We don't just run tours; we live for these mountains. When you ride with us, you’re getting the "local's version" of the Sun Road.

Ready to catch the glow?

Space is extremely limited for these sunset departures to ensure a small-group, high-quality experience.
