Trade pavement for gravel and explore the dirt roads that make Northwest Montana a bucket-list ride, on a Poseidon X Gen 3 from our Columbia Falls storefront.

Head out on the North Fork Road, Hungry Horse Reservoir, or the endless Forest Service roads that thread the Flathead National Forest. Helmet included.

The Bike

The Poseidon X Gen 3 is a do-it-all gravel bike: fast enough for paved warm-ups, capable enough for chunky Forest Service roads, comfortable enough for all-day epics. Aluminum frame with internal cable routing, a simple 1x drivetrain with no front shifter to fuss with, hydraulic disc brakes for confident stopping on loose surfaces, Maxxis 700x40c gravel tires that are fast on pavement and grippy on dirt, and flared drop bars for control on rough terrain.

Where to Ride

North Fork Road to Polebridge (30 minute drive to the put-in): the classic. 30 miles of gravel along the North Fork Flathead River to the Polebridge Mercantile. Stop for a famous huckleberry bear claw, ride back. A full-day adventure, mostly flat with rolling sections.

Camas Road into Glacier National Park (35 minute drive): paved with a shoulder for the first stretch, then gravel options off the main road. Wildlife is real here: bear spray recommended.

Hungry Horse Reservoir (20 minute drive): a 100 plus mile gravel loop around one of the largest reservoirs in the West. The full loop is a multi-day epic, but you can ride beautiful 20 to 40 mile out-and-backs from the dam.

Flathead National Forest gravel network (start from town): endless options. We mark up your map at pickup based on conditions, time available and how much climbing you want.

Before You Ride

Helmet required, provided with every rental. Wildlife is real: carry bear spray, especially on the North Fork Road and any Forest Service backcountry, and we can recommend where to rent or buy it locally. Cell service is limited off the main highways, so download offline maps. Weather changes fast: even bluebird mornings can become afternoon thunderstorms in summer, so pack a packable shell. Forest fires can close roads suddenly in late summer; we tell you about active closures at pickup. Our bikes are tough and we do not charge for normal wear; major damage from neglect is on you.

Want a Guide?

If you would rather ride with a local who knows every fork in the Forest Service network, we can put together a custom guided gravel ride; contact us to set one up. Looking for the paved Going-to-the-Sun Road experience instead? See the e-bike tour or rent an e-bike. Both bikes side by side: Bike Rentals.

Good to Know

How do I book this?
Use the Contact button to send your dates and how many are in your group, and we confirm by email. You can also call the shop.
What bike is it?
The Poseidon X Gen 3: aluminum frame with internal cable routing, a simple 1x drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, Maxxis 700x40c gravel tires and flared drop bars. Fast enough for paved warm-ups, capable enough for chunky Forest Service roads.
Can I take it on Going-to-the-Sun Road?
Yes. It is a great pavement bike too. The 700x40c tires roll smoothly on pavement and handle the gravel pullouts and side roads most road bikes cannot touch.
How fit do I need to be?
It depends on the route. A flat spin on a paved trail suits anyone reasonably active. North Fork Road to Polebridge and back is 60 miles of rolling terrain for regular cyclists. We match the rental to a route that fits your fitness at pickup.
Is a helmet included?
Yes, with every rental, and it is required.
What about bears and cell service?
Wildlife is real, especially on the North Fork Road and in the Forest Service backcountry: carry bear spray, and we can tell you where to rent or buy it locally. Cell service is limited off the main highways, so download offline maps before you ride.
